It’s the end of the year so we’re all feeling nostalgic. Especially when these PennySaver memories take us waaaay back. It’s good to know that PennySaver is always there and now, we’re excited to ring in 2011 and become not just the favorite source of local classifieds, but the best online classifieds site with PennySaverUSA.com.

When I moved to CA from NYC, I furnished my entire one bedroom from garage sales in 3 weekends. It was a ritual that I read through the Pennysaver every Wed. and mapped out 2-3 cities for my Sat. morning hunt. I would start out at 6:30am and even had to wait for owners to start the sale. It was so much fun and I found so many good deals, especially the moving sales. You have to hit them first. I also learned to haggle. My current complex holds annual garage sales and there are people waiting outside my garage before I open my garage door. It brings back memories of my earlier days! Back in the early 80′s my cousin was looking for a puppy. We looked through the Pennysaver and found an ad “puppies free to loving home”. We went and he found his puppy, but I too fell in love with the runt of the litter. She was a beautiful golden brown and was part Doberman Pinscher and part German Shepard. I remember seeing an ad in the PennySaver in September of 2002. There was a living room set, couch, loveseat, 2 end tables, coffee table, and 2 lamps all for $100. At this time, I had just moved into my first apartment and I was only 17 years old. I barely had enough money to do that with no job and all. The items were magnificent. My favorite Penny Saver memory is when we saw the ad for German Shepherd puppies. After we bought our AKC Shepherd, I looked into his eyes and knew he was the dog we always wanted. We named him Noble Good Heart. He has been the greatest protective watch dog ever. One night he was barking like crazy, he kept circling a Green Mohave rattle snake, he saved us from stepping on it. Thank you PennySaver for allowing pets to be sold, We believe he saved our lives. -Joshua Tree, CA

When I was just starting out surfing, I could not afford a new board. I got a great used board in the PenneySaver for $30. It was the best surfboard I have ever owned and all my best memories of learning to surf are tied to that board and my PennySaver find! -Huntington Beach, CA

The Pennysaver, in general, brings back good memories of my grandma. She passed away this last April after a long and difficult illness. Her name…..was Penny. Every week, even up till the very end, she wanted to know where her “Pennysaver” was…..she kept it by her bedside until the next one arrived. It still makes me smile when the new edition arrives and I think of her…..Thanks for letting me share. -Spring Valley, CA

Back in 2004, I had just lost my job and the kids were getting out for summer vacation. Had no money to take the kids anywhere! I looked through my Pennysaver, as I usually do, and saw that they were running a contest for a family 4-pack to Great America amusement park. I sent my entry form and prayed that our family would win those tickets. A month later I received a call and it was PennySaverUSA saying that I had just won the contest! To make a long story short, I was able to take the kids on a fun-filled day to Great America, thanks to the Pennysaver!!! I was very grateful!!! -Fremont, CA

A few years back I was 8 months pregnant with my son and looking for a crib. Being a young single mom, it was difficult finding an affordable and beautiful crib at the same time. I started looking at the ads in the PennySaver and called a couple of them. But they were either expensive or sold. When I finally felt like I wasn’t going to find a crib for my baby, there was an ad the next week for a never used baby crib for $40. I went to look at it and it was brand new and in a beautiful neighborhood in Walnut. I couldn’t have been happier. I still use the baby’s mattress now for the toddler bed. Our Pets Contest was a hit! Due to the overwhelming response, we’ve decided to get some help in deciding the winner…so, this is how this is gonna roll:  We are narrowing the field down to 10 finalists today and letting all you PennySavers out there vote for your favorite via Text message on your mobile phone beginning on MONDAY!

We will be giving you 10 photo choices with a code at the bottom of each that you will send to us. Pretty cool, right? It is free to vote, but standard message rates may apply.

We want to thank EVERYONE who submitted photos, we received 1,104 entries! That’s a lot of cuteness!
