PennySaver Memories

It’s the end of the year so we’re all feeling nostalgic. Especially when these PennySaver memories take us waaaay back. It’s good to know that PennySaver is always there and now, we’re excited to ring in 2011 and become not just the favorite source of local classifieds, but the best online classifieds site with PennySaverUSA.com.

Sit back and enjoy these wonderful stories of how the PennySaver has influenced our readers time after time. Here are our favorite memories from years and years ago that our readers have been kind enough to share with us.

When I moved to CA from NYC, I furnished my entire one bedroom from garage sales in 3 weekends. It was a ritual that I read through the Pennysaver every Wed. and mapped out 2-3 cities for my Sat. morning hunt. I would start out at 6:30am and even had to wait for owners to start the sale. It was so much fun and I found so many good deals, especially the moving sales. You have to hit them first. I also learned to haggle. My current complex holds annual garage sales and there are people waiting outside my garage before I open my garage door. It brings back memories of my earlier days! And I offer great deals! -Buena Park, CA

Back in the early 80′s my cousin was looking for a puppy. We looked through the Pennysaver and found an ad “puppies free to loving home”. We went and he found his puppy, but I too fell in love with the runt of the litter. She was a beautiful golden brown and was part Doberman Pinscher and part German Shepard. Needless to say, I came home with my very own puppy too. -Fullerton, CA

I remember seeing an ad in the PennySaver in September of 2002. There was a living room set, couch, loveseat, 2 end tables, coffee table, and 2 lamps all for $100. At this time, I had just moved into my first apartment and I was only 17 years old. I barely had enough money to do that with no job and all. The items were magnificent. I still look for items every week for my apartment. I also sell items becuase I know PennySaver is the best classified magazine out there! -Oak Park, CA

Steals of the Week-Musical Instruments-a-Plenty!

It’s time for Steals of the Week! Like a lot of kids, this reporter personally has a great memory of receiving my first guitar for Christmas; it’s a day I’ll never forget! It’s a great time to make a musician’s day by giving them a tool to either learn on, or continue doing what they do best. We have some great finds below from the PennySaverUSA.com Universe!

For a guitar player looking for a unique new sound, check out this Brownsville 12-String Choirboy electric semi-hollow body guitar, with a pearl white finish. The owner says that the sound is phenomenal plugged in and even sounds good acoustically! It’s located in Rosamond, CA and is going for $200! This could make a great present for that guitar player always looking for a new sound.

Here is a great music gear deal for the beginner guitar players out there: This Esteban electric/acoustic guitar comes with a case, a cord and a G10 amplifier, and it’s all going for only $70! Guitar has black high gloss body with cream pick guard and is located in Washington, PA. It comes with a hard case and a tuner, so this is pretty much everything the beginner needs to get started. Don’t pass this up!

Buying a drum set new can be a rather expensive task. Most sets don’t come with anything but the basic hardware and drums; no cymbals or add-ons…unless you found this ad on PennySaverUSA.com! This barely-used Pearl drum set comes complete with an Empire Rototom set and  includes a Zildjian ZBT 13″ High Hat, Zildjian ZBT 8″ Crash & Empire Cymbals- all with heavy duty hardware stands and stool. Drumsticks and Zildjian drumstick bag included, and the whole package is going for $500! That is insane!

Do you have a keyboardist in the family that wants that grand piano sound without the huge wood box in the house? Take a look at this Yamaha PSR-E213 located in Pembroke Pines, FL. One press of the Portable Grand button resets the entire keyboard to a stereo-sampled piano! The keyboard includes a Sustain Pedal jack, as well as a stand, foot pedal and chair. And it’s going for only $95!

Do you have a steal that you found that you want to share? Comment below!

PennySaver Memories

As many of you know, especially our California readers, PennySaver is a brand that has been a part of millions of lives for 48 years,  is in over 700 local editions, and is mailed to 95% of the residents in California. And because of this, there are a great deal of stories that we hear from our readers about how the PennySaver shaped their lives. We want to share a few of these every week with you here on our PennySaverUSA.com blog.

30 years ago, I met my husband at a garage sale that had been advertised in PennySaver. – San Jose, ca

I was looking for a coupon for the recycling of all my cans and bottles and it turned out a friend of mine mentioned she was taking hers to a different location without a coupon. She now uses the coupon from the Pennysaver and helps the planet, just like me!  -Norwalk, CA

It was winter time, and I had been out of work for some time. I found a local job right there in my PennySaver.  I know the PennySaver’s variety offers nearly everyone a chance to make the change they need to make.  -San Bernardino, CA

My favorite PennySaver memory goes way back to 2001. There was an ad for a company hiring near my home. I had been looking for work for about 2 months. I called the number, went to an interview, and got hired. Began working the very next day. The PennySaver saved the day!  -Santa Ana, CA
