PennySaver Memories

I go “yarding” with my girlfriends every Saturday morning and we use the PennySaver to obtain all the houses and addresses for our garage sales. We have met the nicest people along the way and have gotten some real “finds” over the years and there is a story that goes along with each and every one of our purchases. It is our “girl” time together and we thank the PennySaver for listing all the Garage Sales every week! -Farmingdale, NY

I have purchased many items through the Pennysaver including vehicles, furniture, sporting equipment, toys, maternity and kids clothes and lots of baby items. However, I’d have to say that my most memorable item obtained through the PennySaver would be my Golden Retriever dog, Tucker. I bought him through the Pennysaver as a puppy 13 years ago and still have him today. He is a wonderful family dog. My son adores him and calls him the “best dog ever.” They are best buddies and do everything together. We love him so much and wish he’d be able to stay with us forever! -Acton, CA

My favorite PennySaver memory was last year when there used to be “The Never-ending Contest” and I would enter to win each week with no success…until one day I checked my mailbox and discovered I had won four free tickets to the Sacramento Zoo! I was so excited and I took my wife and three children to the Sacramento Zoo. My kids had a great time! Thank you, Pennysaver! -Sacramento, CA

I LOVE going through the PennySaver, especially the Lost & Found ads. One week I noticed that someone had lost a Miniature Pinscher in Sylmar. I remembered seeing a “found” sign while out on a run for a dog fitting the description. I drove to where I had seen the sign and called the number, and they still had the dog. I told them about the ad for the lost dog, gave them the number and asked them to call me back if it was the same dog. I did in fact get a call back, but not from them,  but from the owner of the dog. It turned out to be the same dog, and the owner wanted to thank me for taking the time to get the “lost” and the “found” in touch with each other. Because of that experience, I ALWAYS pay attention to Lost & Found flyers and ads, because you just never know. -Sylmar, CA

PennySaver Memories

It’s the end of the year so we’re all feeling nostalgic. Especially when these PennySaver memories take us waaaay back. It’s good to know that PennySaver is always there and now, we’re excited to ring in 2011 and become not just the favorite source of local classifieds, but the best online classifieds site with PennySaverUSA.com.

Sit back and enjoy these wonderful stories of how the PennySaver has influenced our readers time after time. Here are our favorite memories from years and years ago that our readers have been kind enough to share with us.

When I moved to CA from NYC, I furnished my entire one bedroom from garage sales in 3 weekends. It was a ritual that I read through the Pennysaver every Wed. and mapped out 2-3 cities for my Sat. morning hunt. I would start out at 6:30am and even had to wait for owners to start the sale. It was so much fun and I found so many good deals, especially the moving sales. You have to hit them first. I also learned to haggle. My current complex holds annual garage sales and there are people waiting outside my garage before I open my garage door. It brings back memories of my earlier days! And I offer great deals! -Buena Park, CA

Back in the early 80′s my cousin was looking for a puppy. We looked through the Pennysaver and found an ad “puppies free to loving home”. We went and he found his puppy, but I too fell in love with the runt of the litter. She was a beautiful golden brown and was part Doberman Pinscher and part German Shepard. Needless to say, I came home with my very own puppy too. -Fullerton, CA

I remember seeing an ad in the PennySaver in September of 2002. There was a living room set, couch, loveseat, 2 end tables, coffee table, and 2 lamps all for $100. At this time, I had just moved into my first apartment and I was only 17 years old. I barely had enough money to do that with no job and all. The items were magnificent. I still look for items every week for my apartment. I also sell items becuase I know PennySaver is the best classified magazine out there! -Oak Park, CA

PennySaver Memories

As many of you know, especially our California readers, PennySaver is a brand that has been a part of millions of lives for 48 years,  is in over 700 local editions, and is mailed to 95% of the residents in California. And because of this, there are a great deal of stories that we hear from our readers about how the PennySaver shaped their lives. We want to share a few of these every week with you here on our PennySaverUSA.com blog.

I had been a little sad for a while wanting to get a chihuahua, and my husband happened to see an ad for puppies in the PennySaver and surprised me with one! She is a really funny and sweet dog, thanks PennySaver! -San Ysidro, CA

Years ago, I was not doing great in the money department and had no auto insurance. A friend drove my car and crashed it. Having not much money to fix it, I looked in the PennySaver and found an ad for “guaranteed 50% off your lowest estimate for auto body work.” I followed up, and the advertiser did my work for well less than half, and did a beautiful job! -Calimesa, CA

My first and best surfboard was purchased through PennySaver. I learned to surf on that board and it was the best. After surfing, I would fall asleep on the sand with one arm on my board so no one could take it. It was eventually stolen out of my backyard though, but that board still brings back great memories and I know somewhere, someone is learning to surf on it today. -Huntington Beach, CA

One day I had a flat tire, so I had to walk to work 5 miles. When I was half way there, I looked down on the ground and saw a PennySaver. I started looking through it and saw my exact tire size in an ad for$10!  I called the people, and it just so happens that it was someone who had a back yard shop and put the tire on for a total of $10 bucks. It was a blessing and a great memory.  -Hemet, Beach

30 years ago, I met my husband at a garage sale that had been advertised in PennySaver. – San Jose, ca

I was looking for a coupon for the recycling of all my cans and bottles and it turned out a friend of mine mentioned she was taking hers to a different location without a coupon. She now uses the coupon from the Pennysaver and helps the planet, just like me!  -Norwalk, CA

It was winter time, and I had been out of work for some time. I found a local job right there in my PennySaver.  I know the PennySaver’s variety offers nearly everyone a chance to make the change they need to make.  -San Bernardino, CA

My favorite PennySaver memory goes way back to 2001. There was an ad for a company hiring near my home. I had been looking for work for about 2 months. I called the number, went to an interview, and got hired. Began working the very next day. The PennySaver saved the day!  -Santa Ana, CA

In the early 1970s,  I was in Nursing School with very little money. My friends and I and our children always waited for the Pennysaver for all of the restaurant coupons. We could always treat ourselves to an outing thanks to the PennySaver!                                                                       -Dana Point, CA

Recently there was a coupon for a local restaurant where I always wanted to go to. It was a nice treat and time that I had with the coupon just for myself (I never had a treat like that before…since I have 4 children) So, thanks to Pennysaver and the person who took care of them! -Anaheim, CA

Ever since I was a kid, my parents would always search the Pennysaver for things that we needed. So when I was in need of furniture when I moved out of my parents to go to college, I searched the Pennysaver too! And I found an ad for a mattress, and the people were very nice. From now on, I know where to look for anything I need. -Lancaster, CA

When I won tickets to Magic Mountain  and I used them for a family that has never been to an amusement park. The kids cried because they were so happy. – Hemet, CA

Penny Saver is a Life Saver. I fell in my bathtub and made a big hole in the floor of it. I was so upset , not because I fell, but because of the cost to repair the bathtub. Then a friend suggested to me “Why don’t you put an ad in the Penny Saver to get some extra cash” to fix the bathtub. Sure enough. Through the ad from the Penny Saver (or Life Saver, as I call it now),  I was able to get enough money for the repair and even had money left over to buy a rubber duckie. Thank you so much, Pennysaver-The Life Saver.  -Valencia, CA

Three years ago I found a cockatiel under a desk in my backyard. I put up fliers and on online classified sites, to no avail. Then I called PennySaver, placed an ad in the lost and found, and the young cockatiel was reunited with it’s owner. It had flown from North Park to La Mesa unarmed,  just a little scared.  -Spring Valley, CA

Years ago, I won a 4pack of Castle Amusement Park tickets through the PennySaver. I took my grandsons and they had the time of their life. It was so wonderful for them (and us), considering at the time there was no way we could afford Disneyland or pretty much anything for them. It was truly a blessing. THANKS AGAIN, we’ll never forget it. -Victorville, CA

I love Wednesday, that’s when my PennySaver comes in the mail! The PennySaver has the best ads for yard sales. I get my pad of paper out and write them down. My favorite PennySaver memory is the great find I found at a yard sale. It was a box of jewelry that I bought for $ 10.00. Well, in the jewelry box was a 1 carat diamond ring!  A REAL ONE!  That was 5 years ago and I gave it to my daughter when she had my 1st granddaughter. Thanks PennySaver, I LOVE WEDNESDAY!  -La Mirada, CA

My favorite Penny Saver memory is when we saw the ad for German Shepherd puppies. After we bought our AKC Shepherd, I looked into his eyes and knew he was the dog we always wanted. We named him Noble Good Heart. He has been the greatest protective watch dog ever. One night he was barking like crazy, he kept circling a Green Mohave rattle snake, he saved us from stepping on it. Thank you PennySaver for allowing pets to be sold, We believe he saved our lives. -Joshua Tree, CA

When I was just starting out surfing, I could not afford a new board. I got a great used board in the PenneySaver for $30. It was the best surfboard I have ever owned and all my best memories of learning to surf are tied to that board and my PennySaver find! -Huntington Beach, CA

My favorite memory was when I found a beautiful swing set in the PennySaver. I still have it to this day, and instead of going to the park all the time, I created a park in my own backyard.Thank you so much. -San Bernadino, CA

I was selling baby clothes for cheap and a lady called me who wasn’t financially able to buy clothes for her new born. I gave it to her for free plus more. I was thankful to help someone in need. -Lancaster, CA

The Pennysaver, in general, brings back good memories of my grandma. She passed away this last April after a long and difficult illness. Her name…..was Penny. Every week, even up till the very end, she wanted to know where her “Pennysaver” was…..she kept it by her bedside until the next one arrived. It still makes me smile when the new edition arrives and I think of her…..Thanks for letting me share. -Spring Valley, CA

Back in 2004, I had just lost my job and the kids were getting out for summer vacation. Had no money to take the kids anywhere! I looked through my Pennysaver, as I usually do, and saw that they were running a contest for a family 4-pack to Great America amusement park. I sent my entry form and prayed that our family would win those tickets. A month later I received a call and it was PennySaverUSA saying that I had just won the contest! To make a long story short, I was able to take the kids on a fun-filled day to Great America, thanks to the Pennysaver!!! I was very grateful!!! -Fremont, CA

A few years back I was 8 months pregnant with my son and looking for a crib. Being a young single mom, it was difficult finding an affordable and beautiful crib at the same time. I started looking at the ads in the PennySaver and called a couple of them. But they were either expensive or sold. When I finally felt like I wasn’t going to find a crib for my baby, there was an ad the next week for a never used baby crib for $40. I went to look at it and it was brand new and in a beautiful neighborhood in Walnut. I couldn’t have been happier. I still use the baby’s mattress now for the toddler bed. Best experience ever. -Victorville, CA

PennySaver Memories: Garage Sales, Farmers Markets and Amusement Parks

As many of you know, especially our California readers, PennySaver is a brand that has been a part of millions of lives for 48 years,  is in over 700 local editions, and is mailed to 95% of the residents in California. I remember as a child checking the PennySaver for garage sales. My mom and I would then go out hunting down great deals in our local neighborhoods. I couldn’t wait for the newest PennySaver to be delivered! We picked up a lot of good finds at the sales and my mom taught me how to bargain for a good deal. Now, as a parent, my young daughters also love garage sales. We head out and find great deals. One of the best finds was a Barbie Dream Hotel that another girl gave to my daughter for free because she wanted someone to enjoy it as much as she did. Thanks PennySaver! – San Mateo, CA

I can remember lots of summers where my dad would look for yard sale ads in the PennySaver and he often wanted to take me to ”help” look for tools and stuff for home improvement. Sometimes I didn’t want to go, but when I saw him look through lots of treasures out on blankets on people’s front yards, he became an excited little kid at a Easter egg hunt. I felt happy that my dad was so happy, and sometimes I would find something for myself, a kid’s book, a old stuffed animal and I would have a big smile that matched my dad’s. And later that day, we would show mom our treasures we found at summer yard sales. -Azusa, CA

Years ago, I won a 4pack of Castle Amusement Park tickets through the Pennysaver. I took my grandsons and they had the time of their life. So every week my now 8-year-old son will look through the Pennysaver for the puzzles, free stuff, and a Farmers Market coupon. One day we decided to go to the Farmers Market with Pennysaver in hand. Well, the day we went it happened to be raining. The Farmers Market is always on rain or shine. My son wanted to walk around and look for the perfect item he wanted. The rain was steady and in time, the coupon had fallen apart in his hands, but they still honored it even though no one could tell what it had said. He was so happy and we were both soaked!!! We had a lot of fun and without our Pennysaver, we would have never gone to that Farmers Market…thank you, Pennysaver!! We are always looking forward to getting our Pennysaver in the mail!  -Ventura, CA
